Why Greenville, SC?

When I first learned of Greenville, SC we found it listed as one of Top 10 cities to live year-after-year. My wife Maegan and I decided to go on a get-away trip to the Carolinas and mainly because she is a Nicholas Sparks fan. We flew into Charlotte (cheaper tickets from San Diego than GSP) and rented a car and landed at The Westin Poinsette. We were originally planning to spend a day in Greenville and make trek to Charleston. That wasn’t in the cards for the extended weekend. Here is why we stayed in Greenville and made it our home…Want to be my neighbor? This is what you get.

Small City Charm

Greenville offers the warmth of a small town with the energy of a growing city. Downtown is walkable, welcoming, and full of personality—local shops, sidewalk cafés, parks, and festivals bring people together year-round. It’s a place where neighbors still wave, and community actually means something.

Affordability

Compared to many metro areas across the U.S., Greenville delivers strong value. Housing, taxes, and everyday expenses tend to stretch further here, allowing residents to enjoy a higher quality of life without the big-city price tag. That affordability is a major draw for both first-time buyers and retirees.

Future Growth (Family-Friendly)

Greenville continues to invest in schools, parks, trails, and infrastructure. Families love the abundance of youth sports, outdoor spaces, and community events. Growth here feels intentional—expanding opportunities while preserving the character that made Greenville special in the first place.

Travel Proximity

Location matters, and Greenville is well positioned. The city offers easy access to major highways and a convenient airport, making travel simple. Weekend trips to the mountains, beaches, or nearby cities like Atlanta and Charlotte are all within reach.

Four Seasons

One of Greenville’s most underrated perks is experiencing all four seasons. Spring blooms, warm summers, colorful falls, and mild winters create year-round variety—without the extremes found in many other regions.
